NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Lynchburg Hornets on Friday in Virginia in the season opener. The Cowboys will play at Virginia Wesleyan Saturday to finish the opening weekend.
Hardin-Simmons allowed a penalty kick for the Hornets which the opponent converted for goal in the 29
th minute and later added scoring from a corner to make it a 2-0 game for Lynchburg.
The Cowboys shot eight time with four on frame in the contest, Lynchburg shooting 13 times with six on goal. HSU had five corner kicks to eight for the Hornets.
Carson Null started in goal for Hardin-Simmons with two saves and one goal allowed on the penalty kick.
Reid Applewhite played the second half in goal for the Cowboys with two saves and one allowed as well.
The Cowboys start the year 0-1 and continue opening weekend against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, kicking off at 3 p.m.
