COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team split two games on opening day, falling to Wartburg College 3-1 and defeated the Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers 3-2.
The Cowgirls dropped the first match 3-1 to Wartburg with sets of 19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 27-25. The Cowgirls took the first set before falling to the Knights.
The Cowgirls hit .164 in four sets with 48 kills while Wartburg hit .197 with 50 kills in the match.
Liz Underwood led the Cowgirls with 17 kills.
Gabby Jones was also in double figures with ten kills.
Ali Meyer led Hardin-Simmons with 13 assists and
Keatyn Rodgers had 11 for the team.
Ari Villanueva led with ten digs.
The Cowgirls took the second match of the day against Wisconsin-Platteville in five sets 3-2, 13-25, 25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 15-10.
The Cowgirls hit .095 in the match against the Pioneers with 42 kills. Platteville hit .069 with 53 kills.
Rachel Nordt led the Cowgirls with ten kills in the match. Rodgers had 17 assists to lead HSU and Meyer had 14.
Jadyn Henandez had eight blocks for Hardin-Simmons and Underwood and
Sabrina Nelson also had four blocks each.
Kat Martinez led the Cowgirls with 19 digs in the match.
The Cowgirls start the year 1-1 and head coach
Kendall Crisp gets the first win of her coaching career against Platteville. Hardin-Simmons will play again tomorrow beginning at 12:30 p.m. against Augustana College (IL).
