Cowboys Battle to 2-2 Tie at No. 15 Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ men’s soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie against the No. 15 Trinity Tigers on the road Friday night.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie against the No. 15 Trinity Tigers on the road Friday night.
 
The Cowboys entered the game coming off a dramatic finish against Whitman with a goal in the final minutes to tie 1-1 last week.
 
The game went through the first half with no score between the Cowboys and Tigers. That changed with a penalty kick for a Cowboy goal in the 56th minute off the foot of Maxwell Winneker to take the lead 1-0.
 
The Tigers rebounded with a goal in the 71st minute from Hunter Cain to tie and another in the 75th from Adam Knutson to take a 2-1 lead over HSU.
 
Thomas Saylae clutched the tying goal for the Cowboys in the 86th minute, and Hardin-Simmons left the No. 15 Trinity team with a 2-2 draw.
 
Hardin-Simmons shot nine times with four shots on goal while Trinity took 22 shots with nine on target. The Tigers led with five corners to three from the Cowboys.
 
Reid Applewhite had the start in goal for the Cowboys and went full time with seven saves in the match.
 
The Cowboys move to a record of 0-2-2 on the season after traveling to San Antonio this week. They will play next in Georgetown on Sunday at 6 p.m. against the Southwestern Pirates.
