ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team defeated Sul Ross State 25-16, 25-19, 25-16 Saturday afternoon inside the Mabee Complex.
The two teams were tied 6-6 in the first set then HSU rattled off an 8-0 run to widen the gap and never looked back in the first game. In the second game Sul Ross took an early 5-1 lead but the Cowgirls responded to take an 8-7 lead and never gave the lead back.
The final set was tied 5-5 when HSU went on a 7-1 run and created some breathing room to finish off the sweep.
Liz Underwood led the Cowgirls with 12 kills. HSU hit .385 in the match.
Kat Martinez had 19 digs to lead the defense.
Gabby Jones had 5 blocks with
Jadyn Hernandez contributing 4 blocks.
Keatyn Rodgers had 24 assists to lead the Cowgirls.
Cassandra Espinoza led Sul Ross with 11 kills in the match. Tatyana Colon led the Lobos with 13 digs.
The Cowgirls improved to 6-4 overall. Sul Ross State fell to 3-6 on the year.
HSU will return to action next Friday night at 6:00 p.m. against Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
