Cowboys Win Home Opener 3-0 Against Dallas Christian

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ Cowboy soccer team won its home opener on Thursday night 3-0 over the Dallas Christian Crusaders at the HSU Soccer Complex.

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team won its home opener on Thursday night 3-0 over the Dallas Christian Crusaders at the HSU Soccer Complex.
 
The Cowboys got head coach Brad Bankhead his first win at Hardin-Simmons in his first season back home. The Cowboys shot 37 times with 17 on goal in the contest to lead the way.
 
Freshman Liam Cisneros got his first career goal in the 29th minute with an assist from Jakob Fiol. Cisneros scored on a run into the corner of the box with a through ball from Fiol.
 
The Cowboys had a tight contest until blowing it open late, with two goals in the final minutes.
 
Fiol went for goal after collecting a ball in from Diego Espinoza and tagging it into the bottom of the net to make it 2-0 in the 87th minute. The Cowboys ended the match with a free kick off the foot of Maxwell Winneker finished past the keeper by J.J. Sissen to cap the 3-0 Cowboy night.
 
The Cowboys led with eight corner kicks to three and forced 14 saves out of the Crusaders in the match.  
 
Carson Null started at goalkeeper for Hardin-Simmons with one save in the shutout win.
 
The Cowboys get their first win of the season at home and will head to McMurry Saturday to begin ASC play at 7:30 p.m. on the south side of Abilene.
