ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team tied the school record with 19 3-pointers and
Anna Fanelli set a single-game record HSU record with 14 assists as the Cowgirls rolled to a 103-58 win over Concordia on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowgirls led 28-20 with 4:57 left in the second quarter and then hit 4-of-6 3-pointers to close the half on a 20-5 run to take a 48-25 lead at halftime.
HSU came out firing in the third quarter and made their first seven 3-pointers of the quarter and pushed the lead out 75-40 and eventually led 82-49 after three quarters.
The Cowgirls lead the nation in scoring and topped the century mark for the third time this season.
HSU previously hit 19 3-pointers in a game last year against McMurry and Fanelli broke the single-game record of 13 assists by Taylor Gaffney.
HSU's defense forced 27 turnovers in the game and the Cowgirls had a 32-14 advantage in points off turnovers. The Cowgirls also had an 18-2 advantage in second-chance points and a 28-5 advantage in fast break points. The HSU bench outscored Concordia 56-18.
Samantha Tatum hit a career-high seven 3-pointers in the contest and led the way with 23 points.
Paris Kiser had 19 points,
Aiken Semones added 13,
Madison Williams scored 12 and
Kynnan Shields scored 10. Fanelli had 14 assists and nine rebounds for the Cowgirls.
Zakari Perry led Concordia with 17 points and Haven Haymes had 13 points off the bench.
The Cowgirls are now 13-3 on the year and 6-2 in conference play. Concordia fell to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in league action. HSU starts the second half of conference play on Thursday at home against East Texas Baptist.
