ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team avenged one of its three losses on the year with an 80-59 win over East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
The teams came out cold in the first quarter as the Cowgirls went just 3-for-17 in the period and ETBU led 10-9 after the first quarter.
HSU caught fire in the second quarter hitting 5-of-7 3-pointers. An 11-0 run, paced by seven points from
Paris Kiser, gave the Cowgirls a 28-18 lead with 3:30 to play in the half. The Cowgirls led 36-26 at halftime.
The Cowgirls still led by 10 at 44-34 with 4:15 to play,
Aiken Semones and
Mary Jo Parker each hit 3-pointers in the final minutes of the third quarter and HSU pushed the lead to 56-43 heading into the final quarter.
HSU put the game away early in the fourth quarter when Semones,
Madison Williams and Semones again hit back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead to 68-49.
The Cowgirls hit 15-of-34 3-pointers and moved the ball well.
Anna Fanelli had eight assists and
Samantha Tatum added seven.
Paris Kiser led the Cowgirls with 21 points, Semones and Taum had 16 points each.
Payton Hicks led ETBU with 19 points and Hannah Matthews added 10.
The Cowgirls are now 14-3 on the year and 7-2 in ASC play. ETBU fell to 6-11 on the year and 3-6 in conference action.
HSU will close its home stand on Saturday at 1 p,m, when it hosts LeTourneau.
