Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team cruised to a 79-56 win over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday at the Mabee Complex.
Anna Fanelli became just the eighth player in NCAA Division III history with 700 career assists as she dished out six helpers to give her 702 for her career. She ranks seventh all-time and has reached that plateau in just 107 games, which is the second-fewest among the top seven.
The Cowgirls, who lead the conference in field goal percentage, shot just 32,9 percent in the game but overcame it with a 16-of-19 performance at the free throw line and hit seven 3-pointers in the second half to push out the lead.
HSU started the game on a 9-0 run and extended the lead to 23-12 at the end of the first quarter. LeTourneau trailed just 29-20 with 4:40 left in the first half but the Cowgirls ran of 13 straight points over the next 2:53 to push the lead out to 42-20. The Cowgirls led 44-23 at halftime.
The Cowgirls rolled in the second half. Senior
Samantha Tatum hit a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to record her 1,000
th career point.
Tatum led five Cowgirls in double figure scoring with 18 points.
Aiken Semones scored 13 points,
Parris Parmer had 12,
Madison Williams scored 11 and
Paris Kiser added 10.
Haylee Jordan had 15 points, nine rebounds and nine blocks to pace LeTourneau. Bailey Broughton had 15 points. The Yellowjackets had 16 blocked shots in the game.
The Cowgirls are 15-3 overall and 8-2 in league play. LeTourneau fell to 5-13 overall and 2-8 in conference action. HSU returns to action on Thursday against Sul Ross State in Alpine.
