ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team rallied to overcome a ten-point deficit in the final six minutes to defeat the LeTourneau Yellowjackets in American Southwest Conference play on Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Athletic Complex.
The Cowboys entered the game as the top-seed in the ASC and the Yellowjackets came in third overall in the conference standings.
Hardin-Simmons got out to its biggest lead 29-16 midway through the first half over LeTourneau. HSU led at the half 40-33.
The Cowboys played through a cold spell on offense and were down 68-58 to LETU with just over six minutes left in the contest.
Will Bartoszek scored 11 points during a 13-3 Cowboy scoring run to tie the game at 71-71 with three minutes to go in the second half.
Down 76-74 with under a minute left,
Jordyn Arnette scored a layup to tie the game for the Cowboys and
Jalen McGee hit a free throw to take the lead 77-76.
Silas Livingston iced the game with a steal and two free throws to put the Cowboys up by a final score 79-76 over the Yellowjackets.
Hardin-Simmons shot 46 percent and had 45 rebounds to 42 percent from LeTourneau with 36 rebounds.
Bartoszek finished with 28 points and ten rebounds for a double-double to lead HSU.
Austin Brewer had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the team with another Cowboy double-double.
Tyler Williams finished with a season-high 11 points including a big dunk in traffic for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowboys improve to 14-3 and 8-1 in the ASC and LeTourneau falls to 11-7 and 6-4 in conference play. HSU will go on the road at Sul Ross State next Thursday for a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
