ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball sophomore
Jadyn Hernandez went home with the record for blocks in a game in a 3-2 loss to UT-Dallas on Saturday at the Mabee Athletic Complex in non-conference play.
UTD is reclassifying to Division II and will not count for ASC conference games and will not be participating in postseason, however the game will count for NCAA regional rankings.
Hernandez had 14 blocks to set the Cowgirl volleyball record against the Comets. The previous record of 13 blocks was by Morgan Watts in 2014 against UT-Tyler. Hernandez had three solo blocks in addition to getting in on 11 different block assists.
The Cowgirls dropped the match 25-21, 25-27, 19-25, 25-17, 15-13 in a tough finish for the home team on Saturday. HSU took sets two and three but were forced to five and fell 15-13 after jumping out ahead early.
Liz Underwood led the Cowgirls with 14 kills and added 12 digs for the double-double.
Abbi Allen had 11 kills and five blocks on the day.
Leigh Jespersen had 11 kills as well with 22 digs for the double-double.
Ali Meyer assisted 25 times for the Cowgirls and
Keatyn Rodgers finished with 17 assists.
Kat Martinez led with 24 digs against the Comets.
The Cowgirls fall to 12-6 and will host Howard Payne next Friday at 6 p.m. for Cowgirl volleyball Senior Night in the Mabee Athletic Complex.
