ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team had a game of the year candidate in a 2-1 win over East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference play with a come-from-behind win late.
Both the Tigers and the Cowboys came to play on Thursday for one of the best soccer games you'll see all year. It always helps to win those games, and the Cowboys were able to do that with late goals coming from
Thomas Saylae and
Jack Sissen.
The two teams combined for some incredible touch and well-executed set pieces through a scoreless first half. Joel Garcia broke the silence with an ETBU goal in the 60
th minute to make it 1-0.
Jack Sissen crossed a ball over to Saylae standing wide open on the back of the goal for the equalizer in the 64
th minute for the Cowboys.
Jakob Fiol ripped a shot saved in the 87
th minute that rebounded straight to
Jack Sissen who finished for a goal to take the lead 2-1 and win the game for the Cowboys in ASC play.
Jack Sissen and Saylae each have five goals now on the season for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowboys led with 29 shots and seven shots on goal and had 14 corner kicks to lead their opponent.
Carson Null played full time in goal for the Cowboys with four saves in the win.
Hardin-Simmons improves to 8-3-2 and 4-1 on the season and will host LeTourneau on Saturday for Cowboy senior day which will begin before the kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
