ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team defeated the East Texas Baptist Tigers 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday night with the help of two goals from sophomore
Lexi Templin.
Templin opened with the game-winner in the shutout win, scoring in the 22
nd minute from a ball up from
Caroline Burrow to make it 1-0.
Templin cut through a pair of defenders in the 28
th minute to go for goal and make it 2-0 for the Cowgirls. Templin now ties Aviles with nine Cowgirl goals this season.
Fresh out of halftime,
Kalea Willis hit a free kick a mile in the air that bounced into the back corner for the third Cowgirl goal in the 50
th minute.
Kirsten Bush crossed another Cowgirl free kick into
Aras King who scored her second goal of the season on another picture-perfect header in the 83
rd minute to make it a 4-0 Cowgirl win.
The Cowgirls shot 21 times with nine shots on goal and led with 12 corner kicks against the Tigers.
Jenna Russell started in goal for the Cowgirls and had two saves in the shutout win.
The Cowgirls go to 11-1-2 and 5-0 atop the ASC with senior day coming up before the 5 p.m. kick against LeTourneau on Saturday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
