ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team defeated the Schreiner Mountaineers 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
The Cowgirls dropped the first set 25-23 to Schreiner but came back to take the second 25-14 to even the match at one set each.
Schreiner won set three 25-16 before the Cowgirls came back again for a win 25-21 in set four to push the match to the fifth set.
The fifth set was tied at 4-4 before the Cowgirls pushed six straight to lead 10-4. HSU finished the match with a 15-7 win in set five against Schreiner.
Liz Underwood had 15 kills to lead the Cowgirls and
Abbi Allen and
Jadyn Hernandez each hit 10 kills for Hardin-Simmons. Hernandez also had eight blocks against Schreiner, while Allen and
Avery Tumlinson both had three blocks.
Ali Meyer led the Cowgirls in assists again with 27 on Saturday.
Keatyn Rodgers came in and had 23 assists for HSU.
Underwood made it a double-double with 17 digs to go with her 15 kills. She tied
Kat Martinez for the team lead in digs with 17.
Leigh Jespersen had 13 digs for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowgirls improve to 14-6 on the season and will travel next weekend to play at No. 9 East Texas Baptist on Friday at 6 p.m. in ASC play.
