ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team played to a 2-2 tie against the UT-Dallas Comets in a non-conference match on Saturday night at the HSU Soccer Complex.
UTD is transitioning into NCAA Division II next year and is not counted for American Southwest Conference play this season, nor eligible for postseason competition.
The Cowboys snuck a through ball to
Thomas Saylae who scored his fourth goal of the season in the 16
th minute to take a 1-0 lead with an assist from
Jack Sissen.
Jack Sissen later benefited from a penalty on the Comets in the box and took a penalty kick for the second Cowboy goal in the 36
th minute against UTD to lead 2-0.
UTD would score on a header from a corner in the 50
th minute and then receive a PK of their own and convert to make the game end in a 2-2 tie.
The stats nearly matched up in the tie, with 16 shots and nine shots on goal for HSU and 21 shots and nine shots on goal for UTD.
The Comets and Cowboys had seven saves each and HSU had four corner kicks while UTD took five corners.
Carson Null started at goalkeeper for Hardin-Simmons and had six saves in the tie.
The Cowboys finish the weekend with a record of 6-3-2 and remain 2-1 in the ASC with the next game at home against Howard Payne on Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
