HOUSTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team fell 3-2 playing at the University of St. Thomas on Friday afternoon, with sophomore
Jadyn Hernandez recording a career high with 18 kills.
The Cowgirls went down to St. Thomas winning the second and third sets, with set scores of 25-23, 18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 16-14. Each of the three sets dropped by Hardin-Simmons was by two points, including the fifth.
Hernandez notched 18 kills on 32 total attacks in the middle to hit .469, leading the Cowgirls on offense. She only hit three attack errors in five sets and led the team with four blocks. Her previous best was 12 kills in a match, which she had done three times.
Liz Underwood hit for 13 kills on the day and had 14 digs to make a double-double in Houston. She also recorded two blocks.
Avery Tumlinson hit eight kills and just one error in 20 total attacks for a nice game in the middle.
Ali Meyer continued to lead HSU in assists with 28 at St. Thomas and
Keatyn Rodgers had 21 assists for the Cowgirls. Meyer had 10 digs and Rodgers had 13 digs, each recording a double-double on Friday.
Brylee Pursley recorded 10 digs for Hardin-Simmons as well.
Kat Martinez tied her career-high in digs with 32 in five sets. She recorded that number earlier this season against UMHB in three sets, for a ridiculous average of 10.67 digs a set. At St. Thomas she only averaged 6.4 digs a set, which remains impressive.
The Cowgirls drop to 14-9 on the season and will wrap up the regular season on Saturday in Houston against the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, hosted at St. Thomas.
