ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team lost 94-92 to Concordia Texas after rallying from down 13 points at the half to the Tornados, who won on free throws in the final possession on Tuesday night at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
The Cowboys had a career scoring night from
Austin Brewer, who scored 32 points shooting 11-18 from the field. He tied the HSU lead in rebounding with seven against Concordia.
The Cowboys trailed 50-37 after a tip-in from Concordia at the halftime buzzer. HSU shot 39% in the first half and Concordia shot 48%.
The Cowboys rallied in the second and took the lead on a big 3-pointer from Brewer midway through, only to have the rug pulled out from under them with the Tornados getting the go-ahead points without having to attempt a shot in the final three seconds of the 94-92 Concordia win.
Hardin-Simmons shot 63% in the second half with 19-30 makes and finished the game shooting 51% overall. The Tornados led in rebounding 40-31 and the Cowboys won the turnover battle by forcing 14 and committing 12 of their own.
Chris Bryant had 23 points for HSU shooting 9-13.
Silas Livingston led the team with seven assists and scored nine points.
Trevion Howell was in double-figures with 11 points for the Cowboys, including three made 3-pointers.
Hardin-Simmons falls to 2-3 on the season and will host the McMurry Warhawks on Dec. 2 tipping off at 6 p.m.
