ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team downed the McMurry War Hawks with an 89-76 win on Monday night at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
Hardin-Simmons led 43-38 at the half and went on to win 89-76. McMurry cut into the lead late, but the Cowboys went on to their largest lead of the night up 17 points with just a few minutes remaining after two straight dunks to finish off the War Hawks.
The Cowboys shot 47.6%, going 30-63 on field goals. McMurry was 29-72 finishing at 40.3% shooting. HSU won the rebounding battle with 44-38 over the War Hawks.
The Cowboys were glad to have last year's All-American
Will Bartoszek back for the first time after an injury to start the season. Bartoszek finished with 14 points against McMurry, shooting 3-4 with two 3-pointers.
Austin Brewer led the Cowboys with 19 points and with 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Chris Bryant scored 12 points against McMurry shooting 5-7 from the floor.
Silas Livingston led the Cowboys with five assists.
The Cowboys improve to 3-3 on the season and will go on the road to play at Whitman and Whitworth in Washington state on Thursday and Saturday with both games tipping off at 8 p.m.
