SEGUIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team took down the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs by a final score of 87-76 backed by a steady dose of sophomore forward
Chris Bryant who scored a career-high in the win to start the 2024-25 campaign.
Bryant is a forward from Canyon, Texas and led the Hardin-Simmons squad with 28 points in the opener Friday night. His previous scoring high was 14 points against McMurry as a freshman.
He doubled his best game on offense shooting a great percentage, with 12-19 makes. Bryant finished with a team high seven rebounds and had four assists and three blocked shots. He scored 12 points in the first and had 16 more points in the second half
HSU swapped leads with TLU a few times in the opening minutes before taking command and not looking back in the win. The Cowboys led 39-34 at the half and finished scoring 48-42 against the Bulldogs in the second half for a final score of 87-76.
Senior
Austin Brewer scored 16 and had seven rebounds and seven assists which led the team in the win.
Trevion Howell had a perfect day shooting with 13 points and grabbed five rebounds with a pair of assists in the win.
Hardin-Simmons starts out 1-0 and will travel to Kerrville to play at Schriener University on Saturday at 6 p.m. before heading to play at McMurry on Monday night in Abilene.
