SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team took down the Schriener Mountaineers 7-2 on Friday afternoon playing at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio.
Hardin-Simmons won two doubles matches against Schreiner.
Luke Cantu and Justis Petersilie won the No. 1 doubles match 8-5 against Reed and Kirk.
Zach Fowler and
Payne Smith went up 8-3 on the No. 2 doubles team of Schecter and Barragan.
The Cowboys won five of six singles matches against the Mountaineers. Petersilie won 6-4, 6-4 in the first flight of singles over Kirk. Cantu took on Schecter for a 6-3, 6-3 win for the Cowboys in the second singles match.
Smith won 6-3, 7-6(8-6) in a tiebreaker finish at three singles playing Barragan of Schreiner.
Brandon Curiel won 6-2, 7-5 playing against Pogue in the fourth singles match. Fowler defeated Reed in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to take the fifth singles match for the Cowboys.
In exhibitions against the Mountaineers,
Jameson Sorrell and
Jordan Oberbillig both won 8-0 for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowboys improve to 1-2 on the year and will play at Trinity Saturday at 10 a.m.
