ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball fell 9-5 to Belhaven on Saturday afternoon at Hunter Field.
The Blazers jumped to a 6-0 lead after the top of the second inning and eventually pushed the lead to 9-2.
HSU scored a single run in the second inning on a
Gannon Azios RBI double. Jacob Hollinsworth added an RBI single in the fourth.
The Cowboys scored three runs in the eighth inning on an RBI single by
Baylan Vaughan and two-run single by
Jett Forrest.
Kade May earned the win on the mound as he went seven innings and allowed just one earned run while scattering six hits. Logan Goodreau and Caleb Menard worked in relief.
Wyatt Tumlinson allowed six runs (three earned) over one and two-third innings and took the loss.
Brandon Bane worked three innings allowing three runs.
Guy George worked three scoreless innings. Tristan Boedecker worked a scoreless ninth.
Forrest had three hits for the Cowboys and
Brock Calvillo, Vaughan and Azios added two hits each. Josh Neutze led Belhaven with three hits,.
The Cowboys are now 1-5 on the year and Belhaven improved to 3-3. HSU will open American Southwest Conference play next weekend when it hosts UT Dallas at 6 p.m. on Friday.
