ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped its American Southwest Conference opener, 11-1, to UT Dallas on Friday evening at Hunter Field.
The Comets scored a run in the first inning on a Dylan Bivins sacrifice fly and the Comets scored five times in the fifth inning to bust the game open.
Jett Forrest gave the Cowboys their only run of the game with a home run in the fifth inning.
Kyler Reed and
Nick Ellington had two hits each for the Cowboys. Albert Garza and Dylan Bivins had three RBIs each for the Comets.
Dylan Collings allowed one run on six hits over seven innings to earn the win for the Comets.
Wyatt Tumlinson allowed four hits and six runs (three earned) over four and one-third innings.
The Cowboys are 1-6 on the year and 0-1 in league play. The Comets improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
