ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader to UT Dallas falling 10-4 in the first game and 17-11 in the nightcap.
In the first game the Comets scored three times in the first inning including a leadoff home run by Luke Finn. He added another home run in the second inning and the Comets led 5-0 and pushed it to 8-0 in the sixth.
Karson Leatherwood put the Cowboys on the board in the sixth inning and
Jett Forrest added a two-run double in the seventh and
Kyler Reed had an RBI single.
Finn had four hits for the Comets and Forrest and Leatherwood had two hits each for the Cowboys.
Grant Mitzelfelt took the loss for the Cowboys allowing five runs on six hits in two innings.
Brandon Girod worked the final five innings out of the bullpen. Ryan Vera worked six innings to improve to 2-0 for UTD. He struck out seven and allowed one run on five hits.
In game two, Dylan Bivins had a three-run home run in the first inning for the Comets. HSU had sacrifice flied from Forrest and Leatherwood and
Baylan Vaughan RBI single tied the game at 3-3 in the third.
Finn hit a three-run home run to make it 6-3 and the Cowboys came back with an RBI single by
Nick Ellington, a sacrifice fly by Calvillo and an RBI single by Forrest.
UTD then scored seven runs in the fifth inning. HSU scored a run on an error and another on a Forrest sacrifice fly.
Gannon Azios had an RBI single in the eighth and
Jacob Hollingsworth added a two-run double.
Albert Garza had five hits and Bivins added four and drove in four runs for UTD. Dylan Hugley worked the final five innings and earned the win for UTD allowing five runs on seven hits.
Brandon Bane started for the Cowboys and Kace Martinez took the loss, allowing two runs.

Guy George and Tristan Bodeker all worked out of the bullpen.
Brock Calvillo and
Jacob Hollingsworth each had three hits each for the Cowboys.
HSU is now 1-8 on the year and 0-3 in ASC play. UTD improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in ASC play.
