ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team split on Saturday at the Streich Tennis Center, with an 8-1 loss to Texas Wesleyan and a 9-0 sweep of University of Dallas.
The duo of
Zach Fowler and
Payne Smith won 8-3 in doubles match No. 2 against the Rams for the lone Cowboy win in the first matchup.
The Cowboys went on to win 9-0 in the afternoon slot over the Crusaders from University of Dallas.
Fowler and Smith took the first doubles match 8-2.
Jordan Oberbillig and Jameson Sorrel went up 8-1 in two doubles and
Brandon Curiel and
Jose Torrez won 8-1 in the third doubles match.
Justis Petersilie won 6-2, 6-1 for the Cowboys at No. 1 singles.
Luke Cantu defeated the Crusaders 6-1, 6-0 in two singles.
Curiel went up 6-2, 6-0 in three singles and Oberbillig was the clinching win on the day for Hardin-Simmons with a 6-1, 6-0 win at four singles.
Torrez won 6-1, 6-0 at five singles and Sorrell went up 6-2, 6-1 in the sixth singles match for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys improve to 2-5 on the year and will host Oklahoma Wesleyan on March 2 at the Streich Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
