GEORGETOWN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team took two wins against the Southwestern Pirates on Saturday afternoon, winning 6-3 and 7-4 on the road.
The Cowgirls went up 4-0 in the first two innings of game one thanks to home runs from
Kristen McMillan and
Emily Jacobs. Jacobs hit her second homer of the game in the seventh inning to give the Cowgirls a 6-3 win.
Kelly Shackelford pitched game one and had the win in 2.2 innings and a pair of strikeouts.
Jorey Hood threw 3.1 innings with two strikeouts and only three hits.
Haven Williams got the save in the final inning with a clean inning.
In game two, the Cowgirls took a 3-0 lead in the third with RBIs from
Madi Hubbard,
Lindsey Ratcliffe, and
Caitlin Clem.
HSU scored on an error to lead 5-2 and
Madison Mayhew drove in a run while
Jazlynn Cantu stole home to make it 7-2. The Pirates got two more runs in the Cowgirl win 7-4.
The Cowgirls stole 11 bases in game two against Southwestern. Williams started in the circle and threw four innings of 5-hit softball with two strikeouts in the win.
Paige Ontiveros threw a clean inning and
Aubrianna Salazar finished with two innings for the Cowgirls in a save.
The Cowgirls improve to 7-1 on the year and will travel to Schreiner on Wednesday to play two games starting a 2 p.m. in Kerrville.
