KERRVILLE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team beat the Schreiner Mountaineers 11-1 and 10-6 in a doubleheader on the road Wednesday.
The Cowgirls took game one with some big numbers, winning 11-1 with 15 hits in the five-inning game.
Jazzy Cantu doubled home the first two Cowgirl runs in the second inning and
Haley Henson drove in another to make it 3-0.
Erin Love got an RBI single in the third inning to make it 4-0 HSU.
Cantu hit a solo-shot home run in the fourth to increase the lead to 5-0 over Schreiner.
Emily Jacobs drove in a run and two Cowgirls later scored on an error to make it 8-0 in the fourth inning.
Honor Knott added to the Cowgirl lead with an RBI in the fifth inning and
Ella Salinas finished off the inning with two RBIs on a single to make it 11-0. Schreiner would get one run to make it an 11-1 win for Hardin-Simmons.
Haven Williams got her third win on the year starting and pitching four innings of two-hit softball with four strikeouts.
Brinly Watkins pitched the final inning with one hit and one run.
Henson,
Madi Hubbard, Salinas, Love, and Cantu each had two hits for the Cowgirls in game one. Cantu led the team with three RBIs with the double and home run.
The Cowgirls started out game two down 2-0 in the fourth inning.
Lindsey Ratcliffe hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2 for the Cowgirls before Schreiner added a couple of runs to lead 4-2.
Love doubled to score the third Cowgirl run in the sixth and Henson gave Hardin-Simmons the lead with a two-RBI double to make it 5-4.
Jacobs hit her fourth home run of the year to plate three more Cowgirl runs to make it 8-4. Jacobs now has 14 hits with five doubles and four homers in the first ten games for Hardin-Simmons as a freshman.
The Cowgirls scored two more runs on an error and a wild pitch to make it 10-4 and ended up winning 10-6 over Schreiner in game two.
Kelly Shackelford got the start and win with five innings pitched and two strikeouts.
Jorey Hood finished the final two innings of work for the Cowgirls with a strikeout.
Jacobs finished with the perfect 4-4 day at the plate, leading the Cowgirls with three RBIs on the home run and she had a double. Henson, Hubbard, and Love all had two hits in game two as well.
The Cowgirls improve to 9-1 on the year and look forward to the team's home opener on Friday at 4 p.m. for an ASC doubleheader with Ozarks at Lou Morton Ellis Field.
