RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team won 77-66 at UT Dallas in a foul-fest of an American Southwest Conference game on Saturday.
The Cowgirls came out strong and led 27-11 after the first quarter. The Cowgirls battled through 30 team fouls and two players fouling out and almost all in foul trouble in regulation to get to the 77-66 win.
The Cowgirls led 40-27 at the half despite an overwhelming difference in chances from the line, 28-3 free throw attempts in favor of the Comets at the half. The Cowgirls ended the game getting doubled-up, with 23 free throws chances to 46 from UTD.
Hardin-Simmons shot 44 percent in the game and UTD shot 34 percent. HSU won the rebounding by a handful with 46 boards to 30 for the Comets.
Samantha Tatum led the Cowgirls with 19 points against the Comets. Freshman
Savannah Bennett scored a season-high 11 points for the Cowgirls.
Parris Parmer led HSU in rebounding with 14 and put together a double-double with 11 points.
Anna Fanelli continued to lead the ASC in assists with seven more handouts for the Cowgirls against the Comets Saturday.
The Cowgirls leave with a win and go to 19-3 and 11-2 in the ASC while UTD falls to 16-5 and 8-4. Hardin-Simmons will host McMurry Saturday at 1 p.m. for Cowgirl Senior Day.
