CLARKSVILLE, Ark.– Hardin-Simmons' baseball team run-ruled the University of the Ozarks, 18-8, to take the three-game American Southwest Conference series two games to one on Saturday afternoon in Clarksville, Ark.
The Cowboy bats came to life with 22 hits in the contest. Every Cowboy starter had at least one hit and all but one scored at least two runs.
HSU jumped on the board in the top of the first with an RBI single by
Gannon Azios.
Jett Forrest added a sacrifice fly. Ozarks scored five times in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead.
The Cowboys got a two-run double in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-4 before Ozarks added another run in the fourth inning.
It was the Cowboys turn for a five-run inning in the fifth when Forrest had another sacrifice fly,
Craig Symmes had an RBI grounder, Ellington an RBI single and Baylan Vaughn added an RBI single.
HSU added three more runs in the sixth inning on a two-run double by Symmes and an Ellington RBI single.
Azios had a two-run single in the seventh inning and
Jacob Hollingsworth and Azios each had two-run singles in the eighth inning to put the run-rule in to play.
Azios had five hits and drove in five runs in the game and Ellington added four hits and drove in four runs.
Jace Martinez the third of four Cowboy pitchers in the game earned the win to improve to 1-1. He worked three and two-third innings and allowed just two hits and one earned run. Tristan Boedecker starter and allowed four runs in two and one-third innings and
Brandon Bane allowed two runs in an inning and one-third.
Guy George worked a scoreless eighth inning.
The Cowboys are now 3-9 overall and 2-4 in league play. Ozarks fell to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in ASC play.
HSU continues its 13-game road trip with a three-game set at St. Thomas in Houston.
