HOUSTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team pushed its winning steak to three games with a 3-1 win over the University St. Thomas in the first game of a three-game series on Friday night in Houston.
Wyatt Tumlinson (2-3) gave the Cowboys another great start, allowing one run over five innings. The Cowboys then received four innings of one hit relief from the bullpen.
Johnny Follett worked on and a third innings and
Jaydon Stephens worked two and two-third innings of hitless, scoreless relief for his first save of the year.
Gannon Azios tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning with a towering solo home run .
Baylan Vaughan walked and stole second base with two outs and then scored on a passed ball to give HSU a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning. HSU added a run on a
Jacob Hollingsworth RBI groundout in the eighth inning.
Azios had two of the five HSU hits. Landon Murray went seven innings for the Celts and took the loss to fall to 3-2. He allowed two runs on four hits.
HSU is now 4-9 on the year and St. Thomas fell to 5-10. The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday to close the series.
