ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team defeated the Ozarks Eagles 10-2 in six innings Saturday at Ellis Field for the American Southwest Conference series sweep.
The Ozarks led off reaching on an error and coming around to bite the Cowgirls for two unearned runs in the first inning. The Eagles wouldn't score again in the game and HSU won 10-2.
Kelly Shackelford pitched six innings with six hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts in the win. The Cowgirls backed her up with 14 hits and ten runs in the win.
Lindsey Ratcliffe hit a sac fly to score in the first inning and
Haley Henson tied the game with an RBI in the second to make it 2-2.
Freshman
Emily Jacobs continued her streak of wrecking opposing pitching with her sixth home run of the season in the third inning, a solo home run to take the lead 3-2 for the Cowgirls.
Ashley Easley got a Cowgirl RBI in the third inning to push it to 4-2 HSU. The Cowgirls scored three in the fourth, one run in the fifth, and two more in the sixth inning to end the game early up 10-2.
Madi Hubbard drove in a run and Jacobs got another RBI in the fourth, and HSU scored on an error to go up 7-2.
Kristen McMillan stole third and scored on an error to make it 8-2.
Easley got her second RBI in the sixth inning and
Abby Seitzinger got a single into left with an RBI to score the final Cowgirl run 10-2.
Henson had three hits with two doubles on the day to lead the Cowgirls while Hubbard and Jacobs each had two hits. Jacobs and Easley both had two RBIs against Ozarks.
The Cowgirls improve to 12-1 on the season and 3-0 in ASC play and will travel to play at Sul Ross State in Alpine for three non-conference games beginning next Friday at 4 p.m.
