BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team won a battle 5-4 over the East Texas Baptist Tigers playing in Brownwood on Saturday.
 
Zach Fowler and Payne Smith took the second doubles match 8-2 over Daniell and Van Zyl, but the Cowboys trailed 2-1 after doubles.
 
Fowler finished off Couch of the Tigers in the third singles match 6-4, 6-2v to get the second Cowboy win.
 
Payne Smith and Luke Cantu won split-set tiebreakers to win at four and two singles flights, respectively. Smith went up 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(4) playing Ladner and Cantu defeated Karseno 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(8).
 
Justus Petersilie won the day for the Cowboys in a marathon match, coming back against Black 6-7(1), 7-6(5), 1-0(7).
 
The Cowboys are now 4-7 and will host the Willamette Bearcats on March 28 at the Streich Tennis Center beginning at 2 p.m.
