MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team dropped two games of a doubleheader playing at East Texas Baptist University on Friday night in American Southwest Conference play.
Hardin-Simmons went down 4-1 in game one and 7-2 in game two against the Tigers of ETBU on the road.
The Cowgirls led off with a run in the first inning to lead the Tigers in game one before ETBU tied the game 1-1 in the following half of the first inning. The Cowgirls didn't score again and fell 4-1.
Madi Hubbard singled to the wall in left to get the lone Cowgirl RBI in the first inning.
Haley Henson had a double and a run scored and
Ella Salinas and
Kristen McMillan each had a hit in game one for HSU.
Jorey Hood started and pitched six innings in the loss in game one with three earned runs on six hits and is now 3-2 on the year.
The Cowgirls got more hits in game two and led ETBU with 11 hits to seven but only converted for two runs scored and fell 7-2 Friday night.
ETBU went up 1-0 in the third inning which started a string of one-run innings for both teams that lasted through the fifth inning. The Cowgirls fell behind 3-2 and ended up losing 7-2.
Lindsey Ratcliffe and
Madison Mayhew each had a pair of hits in game two. Mayhew and
Kristen McMillan each hit an RBI for the Cowgirls.
Haven Williams threw five innings in a pitching start with a strikeout in the loss.
Kylie Ruiz had one inning in the second game for the Cowgirls with a strikeout.
The Cowgirls fall to 20-7 and 9-5 in conference with the final game at East Texas Baptist starting at noon on Saturday in Marshall.
