MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirls softball team went down 8-2 in the final game of three against the East Texas Baptist Tigers in American Southwest Conference play on the road Saturday.
The Cowgirls managed two runs on just four hits, including a solo home run in the seventh inning. ETBU had 13 hits for eight runs in the win.
The Cowgirls got on the board first with an RBI from
Kristen McMillan in the second inning to lead 1-0.
ETBU went on to score the next eight runs throughout the next five innings. The Cowgirls could not get a strike called at the knees in the second inning, with three walks drawn by ETBU batters leading to two runs.
The Cowgirls pitched the whole squad with each getting one inning.
Jorey Hood started and only allowed one hit against seven batters. Hood came back in for the final inning for two total innings pitched.
Kylie Ruiz had one inning and got stuck with the loss after getting out of a bases-loaded jam.
Haven Williams and
Paige Ontiveros each threw an inning with just one earned run allowed.
Aubrianna Salazar allowed just one hit in an inning of work and
Kelly Shackelford also threw for the Cowgirls to complete the rotation.
Emily Jacobs rocked a solo home run well over the nine-foot wall at ETBU to get the second Cowgirl run in the final inning.
Madison Mayhew hit a double for Hardin-Simmons while
Lindsey Ratcliffe and
Abby Seitzinger also had hits for the Cowgirls against the Tigers.
The Cowgirls fall in the final game of the series and go to 20-8 on the season and 9-6 in the ASC. HSU will host LeTourneau next weekend in Abilene beginning Friday at 4 p.m. with Cowgirl Senior Day before the noon game on Saturday at Ellis Field.
