ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team fell to the Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru 9-3 on Saturday afternoon at Ellis Field to drop the American Southwest Conference series against UMHB.
The Cowgirls plated three runs on six hits against UMHB, who hit 14 times for nine runs in the game.
Aubrianna Salazar started for the Cowgirls and pitched four innings with only two runs allowed in the loss.
The Cowgirls took the lead 1-0 in the second with a
Kristen McMillan single for an RBI. UMHB would tie the game 1-1 in the fourth inning and go up 5-1 after the fifth and 9-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh.
Hardin-Simmons got three of their six hits of the game in the seventh inning and got two RBIs from an
Ashley Easley double to the wall. The Cowgirls couldn't make up the deficit and fell by a final score of 9-3.
McMillan and
Lindsey Ratcliffe each had two hits for the Cowgirls and
Ella Salinas and Easley each hit a double against UMHB.
Kelly Shackelford threw two innings for the Cowgirls with a strikeout and
Kylie Ruiz pitched one inning for the Cowgirls in relief.
The Cowgirls fall to 20-5 and 9-3 in the ASC while UMHB wins the series and goes to 13-12 and 7-8 in conference play. The Cowgirls will go on the road next weekend to Marshall to take on the ETBU Tigers starting Friday at 4 p.m.
