SEGUIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team got the first career win for head coach
Rusty Oglesby at Hardin-Simmons, defeating the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs 2-1 on Friday night.
Senior
Gabby Aviles opened the season with a Cowgirl goal in the 16
th minute to lead TLU 1-0 assisted by
Keanne Alamo. Aviles had 12 goals last season for HSU and Alamo led the American Southwest Conference with 12 assists in 2023.
Senior
Kaylee Maddox extended the Cowgirl lead to 2-0 in the 27
th minute with an assist from junior
Taylor Garrett. The goal from Maddox ended as the game-winner after TLU added a goal to make it a 2-1 final score.
The Cowgirls shot 20 times on Friday with 11 shots on goal. Texas Lutheran shot 17 times with five shots on goal in the contest. The Cowgirls had four corner kicks to five for the Bulldogs.
Junior
Abigail Medlin started in goal for the Cowgirls and went full-time with four saves in the win.
The Cowgirls start the season at 1-0 after defeating Texas Lutheran and will have a night off before playing at Trinity University on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
