Cowboys Roll To 2-0 With Win At Curry

MILTON, Mass. – Hardin-Simmons' football team rolled to a 73-21 win over Curry College on Saturday afternoon at D. Forbes Will Athletic Complex in Milton, Mass.
 
The game started with a bang as the Cowboys forced a punt that went through the end zone for a safety on the opening possession. Noah Garcia scored on a 3-yard touchdown run on the ensuing possession and the Cowboys took a 9-0 lead with Grayson Bearden's PAT.
 
HSU dominated the first half and on the next possession the Colonels had to punt again and again it went through the end zone for a safety. All-American kick returner Dameon Gomes returned the kick 83 yards for a touchdown.
 
Christian Marshall came up big in special teams on the next series as Curry was attempting to punt he stripped the ball and the Cowboys recovered at the 7-yard line. Kyle Brown hit Brock Gibson for his first career touchdown.
 
In the second quarter, Brown threw a pair of touchdown passes, a 35-yarder to Shemar Davis and a 26-yarder to Tailon Garrett. It was the first HSU touchdown for Davis.  Curry's Montie Quinn scored on a 6-yard touchdown run with :26 to play in the first half to make the score 46-7 at halftime.
 
Braylon Henry scored his first career touchdown, a 25-yarder on the first drive of the third quarter and added a second touchdown on the last play of the third quarter, a 6-yard run.
 
Braden St. Ama scored on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter, for his first career touchdown. Meckie McCoy scored the last touchdown for the Cowboys on a 1-yard touchdown run.
 
The Cowboys outgained the Colonels 524-193 in the game and had 33 first downs. HSU averaged 88.3 yards per play on 63 plays.
 
Brown finished the day 16-of-20 for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Henry had 116 yards on 12 carries. Harrison Foster led the defense with seven tackles.
 
HSU is 2-0 on the year and will not have a game next week before hosting North American University on Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. in the home opener. The win was the first for the Cowboys in the Eastern time zone since 1955. The Cowboys beat the Bearcats 55-20 on Nov. 12 of that year.
