ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team took down the Concordia Texas Tornados 2-1 on Thursday on the road.
The Cowboys got the lead from senior
Jakob Fiol, scoring a goal in the 26
th minute with an assist by
Omar Estrada to make it 1-0. Fiol currently leads the American Southwest Conference with five goals on the year.
Thomas Saylae extended the Cowboy lead to 2-0 in the 33
rd minute after an assist from
Edwin Macias. Saylae is up to three goals on the season, tied with
Maxwell Winneker for second on the Cowboy team.
Saylae's goal would end up a game-winner, with the Tornados getting a goal in the 85
th minute before the Cowboys won in a 2-1 final score.
Hardin-Simmons shot 13 times with five shots on goal while Concordia shot 16 times with six shots on frame. The Tornados had six corner kicks and HSU had three.
Carson Null started at goalkeeper for the Cowboys and went full time with five saves in the 2-1 win.
The Cowboys improve to 3-2-1 on the season and will be back in Abilene on Saturday night to host the University of St. Thomas Celts with kickoff set for 5 p.m. at the HSU Soccer Complex.
