LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team started off American Southwest Conference play with a big win 8-0 at LeTourneau on Thursday night on the road.
The Cowgirls owned the match, with 38 shots and 22 shots on goal, allowing just four shots from the Yellowjackets. Hardin-Simmons also forced 10 corner kicks and gave up none to LeTourneau.
Senior
Gabby Aviles had a night with two goals and one assist. She had the game-winning goal in the shutout scoring in the 13
th minute with assists from
Lexi Templin and
Lauren Stengel.
Taylor Koch scored her third goal of the season in the 27
th minute with an assist from Aviles to make it a 2-0 Cowgirl lead.
Presleigh Thiessen extended the Cowgirl lead with her second goal of the season in the 29
th minute.
Beasley Floyd scored her first goal of the season for Hardin-Simmons in the 41
st minute with an assist from Thiessen to make it a 4-0 game at the half.
Aviles got her second goal against LeTourneau to open the second half in the 50
th minute with an assist from Templin.
Templin scored her fifth goal for the year to tie
Kaylee Maddox for the Cowgirl lead with an assist from
Caroline Burrow in the 58
th minute.
Kirsten Bush finished the night for the Cowgirls with two goals in the final minutes. Bush got an assist from Koch in the 75
th minute and scored a solo goal in the 86
th minute to make it an 8-0 Cowgirl win.
Jenna Russell had a shutout in goal for the Cowgirls with one save in full-time.
Hardin-Simmons improves to 6-1-2 and 1-0 in the ASC and will play at East Texas Baptist on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Marshall, Texas.
