MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team split two games, dropping to University of St. Thomas 3-1 and winning 3-0 against Willamette on Friday playing at East Texas Baptist.
The Cowgirls had a tough first match falling 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-13 to UST. HSU came out on a tear and led 9-3 in the first set before dropping 25-20 to the Celts.
Liz Underwood led the Cowgirls with 13 kills.
Abbi Allen and
Gabby Jones each had double-figures with 10 kills against St. Thomas.
Ali Meyer and
Keatyn Rodgers led the Cowgirls with 16 assists each against the Celts.
Kat Martinez went for 20 digs for HSU and Underwood had 14 digs while
Leigh Jespersen collected 10 digs in game one of the day for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowgirls swept game two of the day in the evening against Willamette 25-17, 25-18, 25-22.
Underwood led with 11 kills against the Bearcats. Rodgers went for 17 assists to lead the team and Meyer added 14 assists.
Ari Villanueva had 14 digs and Underwood had 13 digs for the double-double. Meyer also had 10 digs for the double-double.
The Cowgirls move to 3-2 on the year after the split at the ETBU tournament on Friday. HSU will continue at the ETBU tournament Saturday playing Huntingdon at 9 a.m. and Hendrix at 3 p.m.
