ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team blanked crosstown rival McMurry, 5-0, on Saturday night at the Grape Street Complex in Abilene.
It took the Cowboys all of nine seconds to get on the board when
Jakob Fiol found the back of the net for the fourth time this season.
Maxwell Winneker scored off a
Brandon Krohn scored in the 31st minute for the Cowboys.
Celani Nkomo added a third first half goal for the Cowboys when he scored off an assist from goalkeeper
Carson Null in the 40
th minute.
A pair of sophomores scored their first career goals in the second half. Krohn scored in the 56th minute from a Fiol assist and
Nick Ocasio scored in the 80
th minute off a
Noah Bela assist.
The Cowboys outshot McMurry 16-5 in the contest and 10-2 in shots on frame. HSU had a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Carson Null played the first half in goal and had the only two saves of the night to earn the win for the Cowboys.
Griffin Cardwell had a scoreless second half.
HSU is now 2-1-1 and the McMurry fell to 1-1 on the year. HSU will next be in action on Friday when it hosts Texas Lutheran at 7 p.m.
