MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team overcame a first-half deficit to defeat East Texas Baptist 3-2 on Friday night at Cornish Field in American Southwest Conference play.
 
James Webb put the Cowboys ahead early, converting a penalty kick in the 14^th minute to give Hardin-Simmons a 1-0 lead.
 
East Texas Baptist answered with two goals before halftime, one by Jacob Wenzel in the 34^th minute and another from Aiden Fortenberry in the 42^nd minute, sending the Tigers to the break leading 2-1.
 
Hardin-Simmons found its rhythm in the second half. Goalkeeper Carson Null equalized in the 70^th minute on a long strike from a deep free kick that found its way into the goal, and Daniel Villagomez netted the game-winner in the 76^th minute off an assist from Gabriel Sias.
 
The Cowboys outshot the Tigers 14-7 and earned 12 corner kicks compared to two for ETBU. Null also made two saves in goal, while ETBU keeper Joshua Weston recorded nine saves.
 
Hardin-Simmons finished Friday 4-8-1 are now 1-2-1 in the ASC after the win over ETBU. The Cowboys will travel to Howard Payne to play in Brownwood on Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
