Cowboys Roll To 7-0

ABILENE, Texas – Senior quarterback Kyle Brown threw for 420 yards and two touchdowns as No. 5-ranked Hardin-Simmons rolled past Nelson University 68–14 on Saturday afternoon at Shelton Stadium, keeping the Cowboys undefeated at 7–0.
 
Hardin-Simmons piled up 685 total yards and scored nine touchdowns, including seven rushing scores by five different players. Senior running back Noah Garcia led the ground attack with 73 rushing yards and two touchdowns and had 85 yards receiving, including a 62-yard touchdown reception.
 
The Cowboys struck early and often, taking a 7–0 first-quarter lead before erupting for 30 points in the second quarter to build a 37–0 halftime advantage. Brown connected with Wes Douglas on a 60-yard touchdown strike, while Braylon Henry added a pair of short scoring runs. Garcia's long reception and a 34-yard field goal from Pedro Altamirano highlighted the offensive outburst.
 
Hardin-Simmons extended the margin to 54–7 after three quarters, with backup quarterback Ty Thompson guiding a 10-play drive capped by Aidan Rios' 60-yard touchdown burst. Rios finished with 70 yards on just four carries, all in the second half.
 
Defensively, the Cowboys forced four turnovers, including interceptions by Micah Henderson and Bruin Wright, and recorded four sacks and a safety. Linebacker Kaiden Roden led the defense with seven tackles, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.
 
Brown finished the game 23-of-29 for 422 yards and two touchdown passes and added another score on the ground. The yards and completions were both career highs.
Douglas finished the game with 104 receiving yards.
 
Nelson (1–6) managed just 72 rushing yards. Quarterback Judah Holtzclaw threw for 182 yards and two scores, both after halftime, including an 80-yard strike to Zach Fuller in the third quarter.
 
Hardin-Simmons will return to American Southwest Conference play next Saturday at Howard Payne at 1 p.m.
