The Opening Kickoff
Hardin-Simmons will play the first of two straight road American Southwest Conference games as the Cowboys begin their second trip through the ASC schedule on Saturday at Howard Payne. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Gordon Wood Stadium. HSU won the first meeting between the two teams this season on Oct. 4, 69-14. Wes Douglas had four catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns and
Kaiden Roden had a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Cowboys improved to 7-0 with a win over Nelson. It was HSU's 14th straight win over a scholarship program. It was also the 18th straight regular-season home win. The Cowboys are 7-0 for the second straight season and just the 10th time in school history.
Â

? Would mark just the ninth time in school history to start 9-0.
? Be the 50th all-time win over Howard Payne.
? Would be the 23rd straight ASC win.
? Would be the 25th straight regular-season win.
? Be the 115th in the

Â

Kyle Brown added one as well.
Â
Lights Out
The Cowboy defense continued its impressive season. For the third straight game, they allowed less than 100 yards rushing and under 300 total yards. They have only allowed over 300 yards of total offense two times this season. While they did allow two long touchdowns, they did not allow Nelson to get inside the 20-yard line and only allowed one third-down conversion on 11 attempts. They also continued their winning ways in taking the ball away four times, twice by fumble recoveries and two interceptions. On the year, they have 12 takeaways, eight via interception and four fumble recoveries and have scored four defensive touchdowns and recorded a pair of safeties.
Â
Century Club
Wes Douglas had his third 100-yard plus reception day and sixth touchdown in the game against Nelson. He finished with 104 yards and a touchdown. He leads the Cowboys with 30 catches for 517 yards and six touchdowns.
Â
Noah Doing Noah Things
Noah Garcia set a new career-long record for a reception when he went 62 yards when Brown found him over the middle for a touchdown. On the day, Garcia had 85 yards receiving and 73 on the ground. He found the end zone twice on the ground as well. He continues to climb the all-time charts as well. He now ranks fifth in yards with 2,515 and passed Steven Rockwell last week. He will pass Derrick Grant with 37 more. He now has 34 rushing touchdowns and needs one more to catch former backfield mate
Colton Marshall and three more to move to second all-time past Lance Moore, Quinton Jones and Marshall. He ranks 10th nationally in all-purpose yards per game with 160.1 per contest.
Â
Rios Scores Twice
Aidan Rios saw action against ETBU late in the fourth quarter; however, last week, he made his name known. Rios scored his first career touchdown on a 9-yard run early in the fourth quarter and broke free for a 60-yard touchdown run to seal the scoring for the Cowboys. The hard-working junior who is team favorite was mobbed by his teammates when he scored his first touchdown. He is a player that spent two years on the Devo team and has worked his way into Saturday reps. He finished with 70 yards on four carries.
Â
