ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team will face off with the Trinity Tigers on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the first game of the 2025 NCAA Division III women's soccer championship tournament, with the regional rounds hosted by Trinity this weekend.
Head coach
Rusty Oglesby assisted by
Talin Rizo and graduate assistant
Grace Bales piloted the Cowgirls to another American Southwest Conference championship win, taking down UMHB 1-0 last weekend.
The Cowgirls had a heartbreaking loss 1-0 to McDaniel College in the final minute of double-overtime in 2024 to end the year in the first game of the NCAA Tournament hosted by NYU. The Cowgirls draw the SAA champion Trinity Tigers for their opener opponent in 2025.
The Cowgirls and the Tigers played in September of this year, with the Tigers coming back to win 2-1 over Hardin-Simmons. The team is led on offense by
Tatum Barnett with eight goals as a freshman. She was named to the ASC all-tournament team in her first year at HSU.
Lexi Templin joined the ASC all-tournament team for the Cowgirls with the golden goal to beat UMHB in the ASC championship 1-0.
Presleigh Thiessen was also named ASC all-tournament and has four goals and leads the Cowgirls with five assists on the season.
Abigail Medlin was named the ASC championship tournament MVP for the Cowgirls. The senior goalkeeper has just six goals allowed in 16 starts with 60 saves and six shutouts for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowgirls will face Trinity at 11 a.m. in San Antonio. The winner will play the winner of the following game between McMurry and Cal Lutheran at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The second-round match is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. hosted by Trinity.
Tickets for the NCAA Tournament games hosted by Trinity will be available at the gate for $6 general admission, $3 for students and senior citizens, and $2 for children ages 3-12. Parking will be free and available at and around the Trinity University campus.
