ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team earned an energetic 67-55 win against Trinity with an opportunistic game on defense Friday evening inside the Mabee Complex.
After a competitive opening quarter, the Cowgirls led 16-10 and did not give up the lead again. The Tigers came back to tie the game on a few occasions in the third quarter, but Hardin-Simmons pushed back for a game-high 14-point lead, up 64-50 thanks to a
Dylan Koele three-pointer with four minutes left in the game.
Jacqueline Berry finished with 18 points to lead the Cowgirl team.
MaeSyn Gay had her best scoring game of the season with 12 points and Koele ended with ten points in the win.
Hardin-Simmons capitalized on second-chance opportunities with 14 second-chance points helped by a rebounding advantage of 48-39 over Trinity. The Cowgirl defense forced 22 turnovers from the opponent and HSU scored 23 points off Trinity turnovers.
The Cowgirls won Friday night to improve to 4-1 on the season and will go on the road to play in Georgetown, Texas on Nov. 29 against Southwestern at noon.
