ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball fell in a tightly contested match up on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 70-67 decision to Texas Lutheran inside Memorial Gym. The Cowboys move to 4-2 on the season.
Hardin-Simmons opened strong with a 32-point first half, holding a 32-30 lead at the break. The Cowboys were efficient in the paint, totaling 46 points inside and out-rebounding the Bulldogs 41-35 on the night. HSU also forced 18 turnovers and recorded 11 steals.
Asher Fleming gave the Cowboys the lead 67-66 with under two minutes left in the game, but the Bulldogs finished with the win, scoring the final four points to go up 70-67 over Hardin-Simmons.
Junior forward
Chris Bryant led the Cowboys with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting, adding eight rebounds and three steals.
Asher Fleming contributed 11 points and seven rebounds, while
Jamar Ingram posted ten points and five boards.
Silas Davis added nine points and five rebounds, and
Tyler Williams provided nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals off the bench.
The Bulldogs were paced by a standout 29-point performance from Semaj Edwards, who connected on six three-pointers. Texas Lutheran shot 10-of-32 from beyond the arc to secure the narrow win.
The Cowboys shot 43 percent from the field, went 1-of-8 from three, and finished 16-of-23 at the foul line. Hardin-Simmons held a big advantage in points in the paint with 46-26.
Hardin-Simmons will compete in a game against the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas on Nov. 25 at 5 p.m.
