HOUSTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team dropped a hard-fought contest to the University of St. Thomas Texas on Tuesday evening at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center, falling 80-74 in a non-conference competition.
The Cowboys (4-3) got a great effort on offense in the paint and from the Cowboy bench at St. Thomas. Hardin-Simmons tallied 38 points inside and received 34 points off the bench. HSU also controlled the glass with a 41-26 rebounding advantage.
Silas Davis led the Cowboys with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Tyler Williams contributed 13 points and five rebounds, while
Jamar Ingram led the team with 11 rebounds and scored eight points.
Freshman guard
Noah Lamey added an efficient ten points off the bench in 15 minutes played for the best outing of his career as a freshman.
Despite the offensive production, Hardin-Simmons struggled with turnovers, committing 21 giveaways that led to 24 St. Thomas points. The Celts countered with strong perimeter shooting, knocking down 12 three-pointers-including a 24-point performance from Jaden Ross and 21 from Corey Thompson.
Hardin-Simmons trailed 31-26 at halftime but rallied with a 42-point second-half surge. The Cowboys forced ties and kept the score close throughout the final minutes before St. Thomas pulled away in overtime.
HSU returns to action this weekend as the Cowboys will play at Trinity on Nov. 30 in San Antonio, Texas at 3 p.m.
