ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball started the season with a buzzer-beater finish from
Silas Davis, hitting the three-pointer as time expired to give the Cowboys an 86-83 win over Texas Lutheran at the Mabee Complex on Friday night.
Junior forward
Chris Bryant led the Cowboys with 21 points on 6-8 shooting, adding seven rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
Jamar Ingram followed with 13 points and five boards, while
DJ Jones added 11 points, knocking down three from beyond the arc. Davis also finished in double figures with 11 points and two assists, including the last second shot to win.
Hardin-Simmons shot 46.8 percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range while holding Texas Lutheran to 47.4 percent shooting overall. The Cowboys converted 19-26 free throws and forced 14 Bulldog turnovers.
After a fast-paced opening half that saw HSU build a 49-35 advantage, the Bulldogs rallied late behind guard Mason Wallace, who scored a game-high 29 points. Wallace tied the game 83-83 for TLU with a three-pointer in the corner with nine seconds left in the game.
Davis caught a kick-out from Bryant with a second left and won the game for the Cowboys with a deep three-pointer as time expired, for a final score of 86-83.
The No. 20 ranked Cowboys start the year 1-0 and will play tomorrow against Schreiner with a 6 p.m. tip-off at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
