ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team won 69-31 after a great performance against the Schreiner Mountaineers on Saturday in the Mabee Athletic Complex.
HSU led 14-11 after the first quarter and had a big second quarter, outscoring Schreiner 18-2 to lead at halftime 32-13. They finished strong, only allowing five points for the Mountaineers in the fourth quarter for a Cowgirl win 69-31.
Freshman Abbey Cathey led the Cowgirls with 13 points on five made baskets, including three 3-pointers.
Jacqueline Berry scored 11 points and led the team with eight rebounds, adding two blocks, and three steals.
Hardin-Simmons shot 37 percent with 43 rebounds and held Schreiner to only ten made shots in the dominant defensive day.
The Cowgirls improved to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Memphis, Tenn. to play Berea and Rhodes, hosted by Rhodes College, with games starting Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
