SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team had the comeback foiled late against Wis.-Steven's Point, going down 65-61 playing at the Leslie Robinson Classic tournament hosted by Trinity University.
The Cowboys were down 38-22 after a slow first half on Saturday. HSU outscored the Pointers 39-27 in the second half, taking the lead with four minutes to go with a dunk from
Matthew Alexander to go up 58-57. UWSP regained the lead and took the game 65-61 over Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowboys shot 20-of-49 for 40 percent on the day and finished with 32 rebounds against 35 boards by UWSP.
Chris Bryant led the Cowboys with 14 points and Alexander ended with 11 points.
Asher Fleming and
Jamar Ingram both scored eight points in the game for HSU.
Hardin-Simmons dropped to 7-6 and will play again in San Antonio on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against SJU hosted at Trinity.
