ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team moved to 4-0 in American Southwest Conference play with a 98-73 beating of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.
HSU used a 12-2 run midway through the first quarter to blow the game open.
Chris Bryant had six points in the run and
Cooper Peterson his back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead out to 23-14.
The Cowboys pushed the lead out to as many as 25 points in the first half and led 54-32 at the break.
UMHB only narrowed the deficit under 20 on a couple of occasions in the second half as the Cowboys dominated the game in the paint outscoring UMHB, 42-20, in the paint and outrebounding them 46-34.
Will Bartoszek had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and
Chris Bryant also scored 18 points.
Austin Brewer had 15 points and Peterson added 12 points.
Eli Beard led UMHB with 20 points and Josh Goings added 14.
HSU is 11-9 on the year but more importantly 4-0 in league standings and has a two-game lead on the field after the first trip through the league. UMHB fell to 13-6 overall and to 2-2 in league play.
The Cowboys host LeTourneau on Thursday in ASC play at 7:30 p.m.
